PADDYWAGON - world famous BELFAST Day Tour
Dublin
From Paddywagon Tours |
Tour Itinerary
Dublin – Battle of the Boyne site – St.
Peters Cathedral, Drogheda - South Armagh Border crossing – Belfast - Monasterboice – Dublin
Leaving Dublin we begin our adventures by driving North to the bustling town of Drogheda; nearby are the slaughter fields of the Battle of the Boyne (1690), hear how the Irish Jacobite cause was crushed and William of Orange became the inspiration for Northern Ireland’s ‘marching season’.
We view the decapitated head of St. Oliver Plunkett (1681) in Drogheda Cathedral. Cross the border at Newry, viewing the British military fortifications in the Celtic mythology-steeped mountains of South Armagh. Then it’s on to intriguing and beautiful Belfast, birthplace of the Titanic and once the second richest city in the British Empire.
We normally gather for lunch (not included) in the Charming McHughs pub (1711). This architectural masterpiece is one of Irelands most loved venues for social gatherings.
After Lunch we take our black taxi tours of the divided streets of West Belfast. We view the stark concrete barrier that is the peace wall, from both sides. Your knowledgable taxi men will stop with you at the World famous murals in both the Protestant/loyalist Shankill area and the Catholic/nationalist Falls Rd.
After some free time to savour the athmosphere of cosmopolitan downtown and university area we depart for Dublin. On our return journey we stop to visit the highest Celtic crosses in Ireland at the lonely monastic site of Monasterboice. A perfect way to reflect on our day in day in Belfast City.
